Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of this project is to carry out further investigation of the existence of bundles over algebraic curves with at least a specified number of sections. These bundles give rise to the so-called Brill-Noether loci in the moduli spaces of stable bundles. The methods we propose to use are similar to those of a previous joint paper with Brambila-Paz, the PI and the VF and will exploit the VF's expertise in handling extensions of vector bundles. The main aim will be to construct new examples of non-empty Brill-Noether loci, and possibly also to prove emptiness results. We shall look in particular at the rank 2 case which is still not completely understood, and at the possibilities for obtaining new Brill-Noether loci by tensoring known ones by stable bundles.
