Interfacial adhesion between the skin and core is vital for successful co-injection moulding. This research proposes to investigate an in-mould method of mixing which is applicable whether the materials have compatibility or not. It utilises the change that occurs from laminar to turbulent flow when high injection speeds are used in co-injection moulding. It is believed that the skin/core interface can be induced to controlled turbulent mixing by improved understanding and control of system parameters.This novel approach takes advantage of the parameters already available in co-injection moulding systems to exploit it to its potential for multi-material moulding.The development of SMART materials and new recycling disposal routes are just two possible applications.
