Proposal to develop a novel highly flexible material/structure that in its flexible state can be conformed to complex shapes andthen be reversibly switched to a stable/rigid state. As proof of concept, we will focus on material/structure formanufacturing spinal bracing to prevent progression of spinal deformities in adolescents. Fabrication and fitting of thesebraces is highly labour intensive requiring multiple hospital visits, and the finished product is often uncomfortable andemphasises user deformity. The proposed material/structure will require only one visit for fitting, be adjustable in-situ, allowfor growth/clinical needs and improve comfort/aesthetics without compromising clinical effectiveness.
