Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal intends to bring the expertise of Professor Fane and the applicant together and to initiate a research programme on microfiltration fouling research with DOTM (Direct Observation Through the Membrane) at Oxford. The main activity of the visiting Fellow during his one month visit is to develop DOTM using the Oxford USTC (Uniform Shear Test Cell). The anticipated work includes:1). To finalise the design of USTC to be adopted for DOTM. 2). To design the optical system to consider the effect of inner cylinder rotation and to compensate the difference in reflection indices of the test solution and the cylinder materials. 3). To advise on image capture and analysis systems, 4). To outline an experimental programme to use the developed system to study microfiltration membrane fouling, and 5). To develop a collaborative programme to use DOW for analysis of critical flux and particle deposition in bubble-enhanced MF.
