Summary on Grant Application Form
This project is concerned with analytical and numerical modelling of a new design for a catalytic reformer used to make hydrogen for fuel cells. This application is potentially of great importance in industry providing the opportunity to design a new efficient and environmentally friendly compact reactor. The modelling and mathematical techniques used here will extend to other applications, for example, co-current and counter-current reacting systems. A mathematical model involves an asymptotic analysis and an accurate numerical algorithm for an advection-reaction-diffusion system of non-linear partial differential equations describing chemical reactions that take place in a thin channel of a reactor as well as the effect of thermal interaction across the interface layers.
