Adaptive grid methods have become valuable techniques for the computational solution of PDEs of enginnering interest. Moving boundary value problems of Stefan type are an important class of such problems. Based on a recently developed moving mesh algorithm for diffusive phase change problems we plan to extend the technique to include natural convection effects in the liquid region. A div-stable velocity-pressure mixed finite element pairing will be used to solve the fluid flow equations. The temporal integration will be carried out using linearly implicit Runge-Kutta methods of Rosenbrock type. The developed code will be applied to challenging test examples and the numerical predictions compared with experimental observations using particle image velocimetry analysis and also with modified commerical CFD packages.
