Summary on Grant Application Form
The ability to measure UV/V is spectra and determine directly optical rotations of single beads would have a wide range of practical applications in analysis related to on bead synthesis. Using a CCD detector coupled to a microscope we will carry out a number of direct on bead studies. This will include the direct monitoring of specific solid phase transformations, the use of dyes as sensors, an investigation of changes in the hydrophobicity within the beads environment, and direct chiral interrogation probed by opticl rotation during asymmetric synthesis. These will be the first measurements of this type made directly on beads.
