|
The purpose of this application is to request funds for the purchase of a state-of-the-art powder X-ray diffraction system to be used by a wide range of researchers in disparate fields (from thin films to biological tissues). As a measure of our current diffraction laboratory output, our records show that, during the previous 24 months, 2 of our diffractometers have collected >1500 diffractograms providing data for >50 publications, and the total value of projects currently supported is estimated to be > 1 M.Enquiries within our collaborators and laboratory users have identified that their work would be significantly enhanced by the application of a state-of-the-art diffraction facility. Further, such a facility would better serve their future requirements and enable more fundamental studies to be undertaken with greater speed and accuracy.The new diffractometer will become integrated into our diffraction laboratories which form part of a comprehensive physical characterisation suite. Access to analysis requests and data will be via a new Web page.
