Summary on Grant Application Form
B2 Nb alloys reinforced with Nb3Al precipitates show good room temperature ductility and potentially good high temperature strength. It is possible to identify appropriate solution and aging temperatures for Nb (15 and 20%) Al (10 and 20%) V alloys. The nature of the Nb3Al precipitation will be investigated and the coarsening behaviour characterised. Pseudotwin formation and intersection will be examined. Creep properties will be measured between 800C and 1200C. The effects of four heavy additions (Hf, Ta, W and Re) on precipitate coarsening and creep in one of the alloys will be measured.
