Summary on Grant Application Form
This document presents a case for support for a detailed survey of the internal surfaces and structure of the Central Tower and Scissors Arches of Wells Cathedral. The objective of the survey is to accurately define its geometry and most importantly, to collect the information necessary for an in depth study of its construction and subsequent alterations, leading to the production of a structural model and a safety assessment. The survey methodology will require the use of advance technological tools such as digital photography and close range photogrammetry, together with direct inspection techniques on relevant parts of the structure. The survey information will be collected on electronic support and used to build an updateable detailed CAD model. This will be used as an interactive logbook for future conservation management of the cathedral central crossing.
