Summary on Grant Application Form
Building on an existing Network on Microwave Dielectric Ceramics, involving 7 universities, 4 industrial partners and one RTO, strategic international partnerships will be sought with specialist in the USA, Europe, Korea and Japan, with a view to establishing an international network. The broad objectives are to develop an interdisciplinary approach to the processing of microwave dielectric ceramics; this will rely on power processing, fabrication, detailed characterisation and modelling studies. International workshops will be organised for (1) measurement and characterisation techniques and (2) theory and modelling of dielectric properties; invited specialists will be from groups having facilities or expertise not available in the UK. Research partnerships will be established with UK members of the Network and collaborative funding sought. A study visit will be undertaken to Japan and Korea to identify opportunities for collaborative programmes on microwave dielectrics (processing, properties and applications). The result s of the visit will be disseminated to UK members; N+N Workshops involving typically 5 members from the UK and the same number from Korea or Japan will be organised to promote collaborative programmes. An interlaboratory study of microwave measuring techniques will be undertaken to establish the most reliable methods and procedures; recommendations for standard methods will be prepared. Through the membership of the International Network a reference database of the properties of microwave dielectric ceramics will be established. An international conference will be organised to enable the presentation of findings from all the activities.
