Summary on Grant Application Form
I intend to visit Columbia for six months of my sabbatic leave in 2000/01 and am making a case for subsistence and travel only. The proposed research will develop services for network programming/ network configuration/ QoS management which are well integrated with object-based middleware platforms. More specifically, the aim is to provide a uniform programming model for the configuration, inspection and adaptation of network resources (such as router links, queues and scheduling policies) which is equally of use to non-specialist middleware developers requiring QoS and to specialist developers/adapters of services in the programmable network environment. The approach will be based on applying concepts of Reflective Middleware, developed by myself and others at Lancaster, to the area of programmable networks.
