Summary on Grant Application Form
This project is to take two existing synchrotron-based techniques (time-resolved energy-dispersive diffraction, energy-dispersive diffraction tomography) and combine them to launch a new dynamic diffraction-tomography. This will be capable of monitoring, in space and time, the development/consumption of polycrystalline phases within the internal recesses of production apparatus. The facility would be tested on three prototype production systems (ceramic, zeolitic and cementitious) prior to application on diverse materials processing scenarios. In each case the aim is to uncover detailed information on the growth of product(s) around functional devices and hidden regions to improve understanding and design of synthesis processes.
