Summary on Grant Application Form
This project is to research the characterisation and implementation of monolithic millimeter/submillimeter wave active concal horn antenna arrays. Specifically, a 90GHz quasi-optically fed ring mixer integrated an annular slot ring antenna will be used as the basic element of the proposed active antenna arrays. For efficient reception, an integrated conical antenna array is fabricated on silicon membrane, which is placed on the top of active elements.Specific areas of work include active antenna array modelling using the modified DGF-FDTD method, conical antenna, slot ring mixer and antenna using locally conformal FDTD method, the integration of slot ring mixer antenna array and integrated conical horn antenna arrays, studies on fabrication of integrated conical horn antenna on silicon membrane, and finally the demonstration of the proposed monolithic active conical horn antenna arrays. The measurement of this work will be carried out at QMW using the newly developed Compact Antenna Test Range (CATR) funded under EPSRC grant (GR/L58125).
