Summary on Grant Application Form
Pseudo-rotaxane complexes between low molar mass linear polymers and cyclodextrins will be prepared. A range of threads including hydrophilic, hydrophobic and tri-block copolymers will be employed. Esterification of the hydroxyl groups will lead to initiators for transition metal mediated living radical polymerisation. This family of initiators will be used to prepare necklace type block copolymers with a range of degree of polymerisation hairs from the CD jackets. All polymers will be fully characterised. Preliminary investigations will be carried out into the bulk and solution properties of these materials by contact angle and dynamic light scattering.
