Summary on Grant Application Form
Communication and dissemination will be through (i) workshops/conferences on specific subjects, (ii) generation of a web site, (iii) generation of a database, (iv) technical classes, and (v) supplementary publications. Two workshops are scheduled to expedite the definition of research needs in this area, and these are to be informed through two one-day conferences. Information will be disseminated primarily through the web site, and paper-based publication will be directed specifically at those with no web access. Two technical classes will be run specifically to improve the general knowledge of post-graduate researchers in practical areas of membrane technology, and its applications in the water industry, through a lecture programme exclusively featuring experienced workers from within the membrane suppliers and the water municipalities.A significant deliverable of the programme is the database, which will offer an efficient means for collecting and disseminating key information. The names and details of research activities and/or technical projects of all network members will be logged. The core data set will provide only minimal information relating the name, affiliation, contact details, areas of expertise and specific recent membrane-related projects. An additional, more comprehensive data set will be constructed as relational database having appropriate interrogation protocols for identifying case studies having specific characteristics: e.g. membrane type, application/ feedwater characteristics, plant size, outputs, etc. This will specifically address the objective of collection and dissemination of data pertaining to user experience in the application of membrane technologies.
