Summary on Grant Application Form
We wish to evaluate the performance of a novel Fibrous Oscillatory Flow Filter (FOFF) that we have recently invented. We have established that the filter is capable of separating low concentration bio mass from an aqueous stream and that by using an intense oscillatory flow action the filter can be regenerated. We now wish to establish which filter packing is best suited to this process and also establish optimum process conditions for separation. An experimental programme will be carried out to systematically explore process conditions using a laboratory apparatus that we have built in the last six months. On Line bio mass concentration metering will be added to provide efficient analysis. We also wish to establish the micro mechanism by which bio mass can deposit and be removed from the filter. These experiments should complete the proof of concept stage of the invention.
