Summary on Grant Application Form
The main focus of this proposal is to design, construct, instrument and use a Total Absorption Gamma-Ray Spectrometer based on a large Nal detector. It will be used initially to study Gamow-Teller strength distributions in the beta decay of N~Z nuclei at CERN-ISOLDE. The principle aim of the experiments will be to extract information about nuclear deformation and n-p pairing and to shed light on the long-standing problem of the missing strength in Gamow-Teller beta decay.
