Summary on Grant Application Form
Phtoinduced charge transfer in conjegated polymer heterojunction diodes plays a central role in the physics of photovoltaic devices made with these materials. This project is concerned with the fundamental processes that lead to charge photogeneration. We are particularly concerned with the role of the exciton as an intermediate. We request support to extend transient measurements to include photoluminescence (though single-photon counting). This will allow parallel measurement of excitons (though luminescence) and charges (thought transient optical absorption) under comparable excitation condition, necessary to control model high-excitation density effects, such as exciton-exciton annihilation and charge generation thought highly excited states.
