Summary on Grant Application Form
This application is under the Fast-Track scheme for new lecturers. The proposed work will focus predominantly on three highly topical research themes: High-field THz electro-optics of semiconductor nanostructures, semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA's), and modelling of several--single cycle ultrashort pulses. In the first theme, which is the main thrust of the proposal, the PI will develop and study he transient response in the THz and optical domains of low dimensional semiconductors excited hybridly by ultrashort optical pulses and strong THz fields. The second theme will develop and explore exciting new theoretical and experimental evidence to see how SOA's may be used as compact non-linear devices for all optical networks. Thirdly, the study of novel ultrashort pulses propagation of several -single-cycle optical pulses will be performed. Collectively the computational developments will allow intriguing insights into the dynamical processes in matter on unprecedentedly short time and space scales. The Fast-Track proposal will lay the groundwork for more detailed grants that will be submitted at a later date.
