Summary on Grant Application Form
The University of Birmingham is a research-led institution. The University of Birmingham has a research strategy which aims to bring together high quality teams of researchers to form new multidisciplinary research groupings which are project-based, go beyond traditional school boundaries, build on the established track-record of high quality research, and enhance overall research quality. In selecting the projects to be included in the EPSRC Strategic Research Equipment Initiative from the many expressions of interest received, the criteria of research of excellence, strengthening capability within the University's strategy, multidisciplinary and the extent of EPSRC grants held were used. The attached spreadsheets demonstrates that these projects are within our strategic framework and meet the scheme's stated purposes. In particular, the University aims to build multidisciplinary research teams which bring together research interests in materials science and bioscience, physical sciences engineering and medicine and which have the capacity through specialist equipment to enhance the research capability of existing research capability of existing research teams for the future.
