Summary on Grant Application Form
The equipment requested will underpin the on-going extensive programmes of internationally leading research in synthetic inorganic and organic chemistry at the University of Oxford. Within inorganic chemistry this covers: organometallic chemistry of metallocenes, alkyl and related species and their application in heterogeneous and homogeneous catalytic reactions such as carbonylation, metathesis and polymerisation and as precursors for new materials with novel electronic properties; fundamental co-ordination chemistry and its uses in supramolecular arrays as sensors, in medicine for imaging and/or therapy and in display technology. The organic research covers: biorganic chemistry and the synthesis of enzyme inhibitors and physiologically active compounds, asymmetric synthetic methodologies, combinatorial chemistry, the synthesis of polymers with novel electronic and material properties, the chemistry of glycosides and carbohydrates, pharmacologically active heterocyclic derivatives, asymmetric synthesis using transition metal catalysts and the development of rapid throughput catalyst screening techniques.
