Summary on Grant Application Form
The development of mark-recapture for use by wildlife managers has benefited appreciably from a series of international EURING workshops. Distance sampling methods, though more widely used than mark-recapture, has never had a similar forum. It is therefore time to organise the first International Conference on Distance Sampling, to bring together the major developers of methodologies, together with the various user communities. This should spark methodological development that addresses real practical concerns. With many users of the methods present, the conference will also provide an excellent opportunity for disseminating the methodologies and software developed by the St Andrews team, partly with EPSRC support.
