Summary on Grant Application Form
Most industrial systems are non-linear but the design procedures employed are often linear. The international evidence is that the next set of performance gains will come from using non-linear methodologies for control design. The key objective of the project is to provide a validated set of pragmatic and rigorous techniques for practical industrial non-linear control system design.The research will involve developing new and extending existing non-linear control design methods. It will examine the full breadth of problems from modelling and identification, through control design to assessment on real industrial models of non-linear plant. The industrial sectors of steel, marine, process control and wind energy will be used in validation studies.International and UK dissemination will play an important role in the research. A small but active international network will be used to actuate the research and its directions. UK dissemination, especially to industrial end-users will occur via the Advanced Control Technology Club and the EPSRC Marine Network.
