Summary on Grant Application Form
The goal of the present proposal is to invent a coloration system, which results in 100% colour use through permanent immobilisation on the substrate. Total immobilisation of the applied colorant will lead to step changes in coloration technology. The perceived advantages are an increase in productivity through shorter production times in both the coloration stage and particularly the washing stage, which will result in greater commercial competitiveness. Use of less colorant will also yield significant commercial and environmental advantages. The major disadvantage of many coloration processes is the discharge of unfixed colorants from the coloration and washing processes, such that water reuse is not possible. Complete fixation of the colorant will lead to major improvements in water recycling and energy reuse. Minimal effluent will significantly improve the environmental issues associated with coloration at present. The project will initially concentrate on cellulosic, polyester and polyamide substrates followed later by adoption of the system to a much broader range of substrates.
