Summary on Grant Application Form
The essential core of this proposal is to provide a forum for academics and practitioners to discuss and plant he best way forward for river-floodplain research and development in the UK. EPSRC have funded the Flood Channel Facility at Wallingford since 1986 producing world class publications and data-sets, but nevertheless lacking the degree of dissemination required to transfer the output in the right form to end-users who are likely to benefit most. The proposed Network will facilitate the process of dissemination through the formation of working groups focused on 1-D modelling, vegetation roughness, 2-D and 3-D computer models and development of comprehensive databases. The Network will also develop close links with a second network on fluvial sediments/morphology and will advise on the future direction of the FCF, field measurement programme and the production of a Rivers Floodplain Handbook.
