|
The FRIS project aims to use detailed empirical observations of expert investigation practices to inform state-of-the-art countermeasures to the growing problem of fraudulent insurance claims, which the ABI estimates cost 650 million annually. The project has four aspects:(i) Combining ethnography with protocol analytic and experimental techniques for the empirical study of claim investigation expertise;(ii) Developing a suite of tools, using artificial intelligence techniques, database theory and visual interface technologies, to support documentation, visualisation and simulation tasks inherent in claims investigation. The tools will serve the dual functions of supporting practice and enabling automated knowledge of elicitation.(iii) Conducting situated evaluations, within the AXA Special Investigations Unit, the Loss Prevention Council and other organisations, both of existing systems use, and of tools developed during the project. The evaluation results will inform further support tool design and integration.(iv) Exploration as to how the studies of expertise and the developed tools contribute to combating fraud across the insurance sector, and in domains outside this sector such as benefits claims investigations.
