Summary on Grant Application Form
This project addresses the problem of automatically generating speech with intonation appropriate to its content, where this content includes a representation of information structure, or relation to the discourse context. The project will develop a framework for content specification that allows purely algorithmic generation of speech via a grammar that cover co-ordination and ellipsis as well as intonation structure. This framework will be integrated with the Longbow-based discourse planner, and incorporated as a component within the CMU Communicator spoken dialogue system to provide an end-to-end system for evaluation.
