Summary on Grant Application Form
The TRUMPET project will produce materials and presentations to facilitate the dissemination of the outputs of our Accessibility-related research to one of the core groups of end users of the work: people with learning difficulties. The project will work with a leading organisation of people with learning difficulties and a group of teachers and education officers from one of the DfEE Regions who have special interest in education of children with special needs. The project will concentrate on children about 14 years of age as they are in an important transition phase in educational terms and the developments are therefore more likely to be relevant to other age groups. TRUMPET will develop appropriate materials to describe the work in accessible formats (including Braille, tactile surfaces iconographic media). These materials will be tested on various groups of people with learning difficulties. The resulting presentational methods will then be tested on other groups of people such as children, elderly people and others who need simple concise and clear descriptions of the substance and significance of research outputs so that a methodology can be developed for wider dissemination of scientific results. The focus will be on interactive dissemination using computer and other means delivering two-way communication with people for whom interactions are difficult to achieve.
