|
The proposed programme involves the establishment of a UK-wide Network of research groups with interests in microstructural characterisation and magnetic domain imaging of magnetic materials. Both academic and industrial groups are involved. This will enable the research groups involved to share their collective knowledge of materials characterisation and to collaborate on the development of advanced characterisation techniques. The Network activities will include six-monthly general meetings which all group members will attend, in addition to sub-group meetings to discuss specialist topics. In order to make the activities of the Network as widely accessible as possible, a website and newsletter will be created, and some of the meetings held will be open to interested parties outside the Network partners. An important part of the Network activities will be short (one or two week) visits by young researchers to other participating laboratories. This will allow the young researchers to widen their scientific expertise and to meet others with common interests in magnetic materials characterisation. It is hoped that this will lead to a broader knowledge base in the magnetism community.
