Summary on Grant Application Form
The project will be concerned with the evaluation of new initiators for the controlled ring-opening polymerisation of lactides and lactones to give biodegradable and biocompatible materials. The initial objective will be to synthesise and evaluate a new family of magnesium and tin initiators based on (-diketimate ligation. The study will then be extended to Mg, Sn and Al systems bearing Schiff-base ligands. Each new initiator system will be valuated for living characteristics and, where possible, block copolymers containing lactides and lactones will be prepared.
