Summary on Grant Application Form
The kinetics of a representative range of homogenous polymerisation catalysts will be studied using quenched-flow methods. In line with previous expertise in our laboratory the work will concentrate on borate-activated early transition metal catalysts. The concentration of active species (C*) as function of ligand structure, type of activation and nature of the counteranion will be determined. Parallel catalytic studies will be conducted, to provide information about catalyst behaviour over longer reaction times. A protocol for the intrinsic activity of catalysts in the absence of mass transport and other limitations will be established. New activator systems based on new super-weakly coordinating anions will be developed and tested. The influence of ligand structure on the rate of chain propagation and termination will be determined.
