Summary on Grant Application Form
We present a programme in which we plan to study the Physics of a number of exotic superconductors. The work will be both a natural continuation of our successful research programme on superconductors and take our research forward into new and exciting areas. In particular, we propose to study the superconducting state and the interplay between magnetism and superconductivity (nature of the flux line lattice, pinning, magnetic field dependence of superconducting parameters, anisotropy, peak effect, etc.) in a number of superconducting systems including the high Tc oxides (Yba2Cu3O7-x and Nd2-xCexCuO4), magnetic superconductors (Rni2B2C, ErRh4B4, R3Rh4Sn13), NbSe2 and the heavy fermion compounds.Samples will be prepared at Warwick as part of our single crystal growth programme. Others samples will be provided by collaborating institutions. The techniques to be employed during the course of this work include neutron scattering, magnetisation studies, heat capacity and local Hall probe measurements. We intend to carry out this work in collaboration with several internationally leading groups of scientists, based here in the UK and abroad.
