Summary on Grant Application Form
The acquisition of a single crystal diffractometer equipped with a CCD detector under the EPSRC-multi-user-programme will allow existing high-profile projects dependent on structural information to proceed at internationally competitive rate ( Molecular framework solids and Structural characterisation of novel catalysts for clean technology ), and will facilitate projects to benefit from single crystal structure determination to which our current apparatus is inapplicable: Charge density studies of multianionic phosphazenates , Complete structural characterisation of gold nano-particles and Structural characterisation of modified oligonucleotides . The high sensitivity, extended temperature range and proven versatility of the requested apparatus make it ideally suited to these goals. In order to allow the instrument to be used effectively, particularly for the novel applications proposed, a PDRA is requested.
