Summary on Grant Application Form
A polymer-recycling network will be formed to provide a focus for academic: industry interactions. In the face of legislation, industry is recognising the polymer-recycling field as critical and non-competitive. There has been considerable activity in the UK by academics, including those researching the underpinning technical issues. However there is a lack of synergy between emerging strands of research and much work has been undertaken without close co ordination with industry. Through a range of activities the network will draw together the knowledge base of universities and industry, enable effective exploitation of this knowledge in industry and establish a focus to identify and clearly articulate industry's broad and specific requirements in strategic waste management. It will bring together leading academic groups approaching the issue from a range of perspectives, provide a highly effective forum, an interface between the academic establishments and industry and promote knowledge sharing and collaborative activity. It will provide industry with tools to tackle the issues associated with recycling, through targeted research and technology transfer and provide a mechanism for culture change through increased awareness.
