Simulation modelling has been used in decision support systems to analyse aspects of organisational processes since the 1960s. its success depends on frequent meetings between analysts and stakeholders to develop valid conceptual and computer models of an organisational process, to experiment with these models, to report on the findings of experimentation and to make decisions based on such findings. A key to the success of a simulation project is good communication between analysts and stakeholders. This requires frequent meetings between these groups and frequent exchange of information. Computer Supported Collaborative Working (CSCW) and group ware provides theory and technology to support collaboration in the workplace. Networked simulation, the use of networks of computers to improve the process of simulation modelling, has given rise to academic research such as Web-Based Simulation, Distributed Interactive Simulation and Parallel and Distributed Simulation. There has been much work in all three of these complementing areas but little integration. The main rationale of this research is to establish a Technology Programme Network to investigate the links between these three complementing fields with respect to establishing key research areas for simulation modelling group ware methodologies, standards and applications.
