Summary on Grant Application Form
A distinctive feature of recent economic conditions has been the growing importance of supply chain management. It has been observed that, increasingly, competition is occurring between supply chains rather than between stand-alone enterprises. An aspect so far largely neglected however is the issue of customer-responsiveness - ie the ability to cope with shortened product life cycles and the fragmentation in formerly standard products in an agile way. This has become a new and vital management priority and one which is reliant on an integrated response using both technical and organisational/behavioural capabilities. The proposed research will (1) identify the key capabilities required in the management of these cross-boundary entities; (2) clarify how customer-responsive supply chains operate; (3) develop a measuring instrument to help clarify good practice and to audit current practice: (4) identify the development processes required in order to grow the necessary capabilities.EngProg\
