Summary on Grant Application Form
This project will develop a facility to enable dielectric measurements of concrete structures in the field to be determined over a wide range of radar frequencies. A wide-band horn antenna will be developed and its capabilities investigated for use on structural concrete. This novel facility will be used to enhance the capabilities and accuracy of conventional impulse radar systems that are commercially available.Attention will be focused upon the depth capability of dielectric measurements using the horn antenna and on the influence of steel reinforcing bars on dielectric measurements. The influence of differential moisture layers within the concrete on dielectric measurements will also be studied.Tests of the TEM horn will be carried out both on laboratory specimens and during field trails on civil engineering structures.EngProg\
