Summary on Grant Application Form
Firstly, to investigate the nature of co-channel interference caused by high data rate packets being sent on the downlink of a third generation (3G) code division multiple access (CDMA) system. High data rate packets may take up a significant proportion of available bandwidth and are likely to arise from bursty traffic sources, such as the internet. Secondly to determine how the use of antenna array techniques on the downlink would affect co-channel interference caused by high data rate packets. A related issue is to check the feasibility of using downlink beamforming with the higher layer protocols that control how data is sent across the physical layer. The results of this analysis may be used to design improved algorithms for controlling the flow of data in a CDMA wireless network. It may also provide lessons for the use of beamforming in future broadband wireless networks.
