Summary on Grant Application Form
The current practice in turbulence modelling at the second-order closure level of splitting the fluctuating pressure-velocity correlations into pressure redistribution and 'diffusion' terms is both irrational and counter-productive as the resulting 'diffusion' term is physically meaningless, impossible to model and is therefore always neglected from all turbulence closures. We propose to advance a more rational approach to modelling these correlations, based on the use of Tensor Representation Theory to express these correlations (4th order tensors) in terms of more tractable second- and third-order tensors. The outcome will then be simplified through the application of certain theoretical constraints.
