Summary on Grant Application Form
The application, under the multi-project research equipment (MPRE) scheme, is for the purchase of an FTIR system that will underpin a range of 8 EPSRC funded programmes specified above. The specific requirements for the instrument in programmes (1) - (8) are as follows: (1) high frequency and spatial resolution microscopy of non-equilibrium detector structures and step-scan FTIR measurement of time-dependant emission from intra-cavity laser gas sensors; (2) high resolution modulation spectroscopy of single quantum dots using step-scan mode; (3) high resolution FTIR subband spectroscopy of large gap II-VI systems; (4) high spatial resolution FTIR microscopy of CVD diamond and polymer surfaces; (5) FTIR transmission and reflection spectroscopy of chalcogenide glass fibres from near infrared to beyond 100 micrometers; (6) rapid spectral data acquisition by high resolution FTIR spectroscopy of novel optical fibres and fibre components; (7) high frequency and resolution FTIR spectroscopy of waveguide facets in switchable wavelength interference filters; (8) rapid data acquisition of wide range spectra of hydrocarbons by transmission FTIR.
