Summary on Grant Application Form
The research programme is focused on creation of a novel 3-D gas-plasma simulation code based on a hybrid Lattice-Boltzmann method for the gas, and an extended ambipolar treatment of the plasma dynamics, with mutual interaction achieved through collisions and plasma population at the gas-plasma interface.Surface interaction, including sheath evolution and stability, will also be addressed, with particular emphasis on the sheath interaction with the ambient gas flow at moderate and higher pressures. The software will be adaptable, readily parallelisable, portable and accessible to the non-expert.The software will be made available to the community, to allow numerical experiments in plasma processing such as varying the ac voltage and frequency of the driving field, and altering the neutral flow parameters and the gas pressure. Simulations will be based on the standard GEC Reference Cell geometry, but other configurations will be possible.
