Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed ROPA research project will be a laboratory-based project to study stable carbon and hydrogen isotope fractionation during enzyme specific degradation of halomethanes, particularly CH3C1, CH3Br and CH3I (and possibly the compound CH3SH). There are little research results, internationally, that show isotope effects due to specific enzymes, and compare these to the expressed isotope effects of an entire microorganism. It is anticipated that the methods and results of the proposed ROPA research can be directly extrapolated to study of the enzymes responsible for methane production and degradation as well as simple chlorinated and brominated hydrocarbons.EngProg\
