Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed project aims to build on successful preliminary results and is intended to lead to new metallocalixarene-based catalysts for the polymerisation of olefins. Initial work will be metal based, utilising active metal fragments (metals of the groups 3-6 and 8-10 are known to be active in the homogeneous polymerisation of olefins) with known calixarene ligands. The second part of the project will be ligand based - we propose to synthesis new ligands according to the design. principles discussed in the case for support, investigate their transition metal coordination chemistry, and evaluate suitable candidate complexes as catalysts by studying their activity for the polymerisation of olefins. The ability to fine tune these systems (both sterically and electronically) will be an important aspect of the programme.
