Summary on Grant Application Form
The interactions between the open-shell molecules NO, 02 and NO2 with closed shell molecules will be investigated in detail using the high resolution microwave, infrared and mm-wave spectroscopy of their weakly bound complexes. In particular the resolved hyperfine structure will be used to investigate electron reorganisation and possible incipient chemical bond formation between molecules in close proximity.Mm-wave double resonance techniques will be developed to investigate low-lying excited state of the complexes containing 02 and NO (this contains additional information not available from ground state studies). The same techniques will enable investigation of the low frequency Van der Waals modes of vibration in Rg-NO2 complexes and the extraction of intermolecular potential energy surfaces.
