Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research seeks to design and construct a measurement system for monitoring 2 component flows. The system will be of a size comparable with conventional industrial flowmeters and will enable on-line measurement of the axial, radial and angular velocity distributions of the disperse component, the local volume fraction distributions of both components and the volumetric flow rate of one or both components. Pipeline data acquisition and processing techniques will enable high speed real-time operation. Using embedded algorithms, measurement data will be fused with data from smart plug-and-play auxiliary sensors to provide processed flow information which will be output via a simple 4-wire interface. Validation experiments will be performed to establish the feasibility of using the system in sewage dewatering, monitoring of bubble column and oil well flow measurement applications. The goal of the research is to design and apply a new generation of flow measurement devices that are robust and non-invasive and which provide detailed characterisation of multiphase flows.EngProg\
