|
It is proposed to establish international research teams to create a new range of sensor-actuator systems for ultrasonic applications. Two themes are addressed, embracing mathematical modelling to facilitate system design and new transducer devices for use in non-destructrive testing, sonar, biomedicine and process control. Specific topic areas include wave propogation in inhomogenous media, non-linear and thermal modelling, transducer materials, micromaching, transducer integration and high power processing. Relevant collaborations within the UK and overseas will be formed and during the timeframe of the programme, funded research projects in each of the subject area will be established. Exploitation of the research output will be facilitated via appropriate industrial collaboration and through the conduit of the Centre for Ultrasonic Engineering at Strathclyde. Support is requested to fund two experienced postdoctoral researchers to create and lead research teams under each strategic theme, with the overall objective of delivering a new range of ultrasonic devices that would be of significant benefit to UK industry and society.
