Summary on Grant Application Form
This Training Package addresses the national shortage of skills in software engineering, focusing on the particular needs of small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It will expand the existing Oxford IGDP Msc in Software Engineering with new courses representing essential components of electronic commerce, an area of national growth that is under-represented in the current provisionfor part-time, postgraduate education and training. The new courses will be supported by a set of electronic learning resources, including on-line study material and learning and interaction environments.SMEs traditionally find it hard to fund the cost of Masters-level education; the Training Package will provide a system of bursaries, available to candidates from recognised SMEs, in order to encourage them to participate. These bursaries will respresent 36% of the total cost of an Msc studentship; the candidate's company will contribute a further 36%; the remaining costs will be met either by the candidate or by the company. Funding is sought for the bursaries, for the development of the new courses, and for the creation of the electronic learning resources.
