Summary on Grant Application Form
This Masters Training Package (MTP) is based on the existing MSc in Reliability Engineering and Safety Management run since 1991 at Heriot-Watt University which has had teaching support from experts in industry, the HSE and the Universities of Strathclyde and Edinburgh. This new MTP addresses the areas of safety, risk and reliability engineering which are assuming greater importance in all areas of engineering activity as well as in the financial and insurance sectors. The training package blends a strong analytical content, with the 'softer' sciences and management; simultaneously developing a base of specific and transferable skills. It has a novel structure allowing simultaneous provision of full-time and part-time modes of study with some distance learning. The objectives of the period of EPSRC support are to re-launch the course in its revised and up-dated form in the novel structure, specifically the development of flexible / distance learning materials.
