Summary on Grant Application Form
An investigation into the application of barrier layers for enhanced performance in blue emitting TFEL devices will be undertaken utilising 10nm Y O barrier layers fabricated within Si/Y O (300nm)/SrS:Ce(800nm)/Y O (300nm)/ITO test devices deposited by rf magnetron sputtering. The effect of the barrier layer will be evaluated in terms of the electro-optical performance, morphology, crystallinity, and dopant distribution. A model to describe the barrier layer improvement effect for both SrS:Ce and ZnS:Mn based devices will be developed based on the existing electron tunnelling model, utilising the materials data from x-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, and secondary ion mass spectroscopy analysis.
